Best of IPL 2010: Watch videos

We are half way through the IPL 2010 season and we already say some great fielding display by players across teams. As we know the very famous saying of catches win matches in Cricket, so I thought of sharing some great catches of this year’s Indian Premier League Cricket. The catch taken by David Hussey right on the boundary line hit by Paul Collingwood was one of the best catches - it not only involved the physical skills but also a great presence of mind to take that catch and also prevent a six. This catch was in the match between Delhi Daredevils Vs Kolkata Knight Riders. There are many more catches like that - the return catch taken by Yousuf Pathan. Rahul Dravid took a wonderful catches while running towards the ball and maintain the balance. Following is the pointer where you can visit to watch all the catches and many more.  To watch Yusuf Pathan fastest century of the IPL visit following link:Author: Mona Gupta (New Delhi) … [Read more...]

IPL: The Injury League

The third edition of the Indian Premier League is very well getting itself christened as the Injured Players League or the Injury Prone League. With the tournament heading its halfway mark, it is not just the action-packed excitement of the game that is making all the news but also the not-so-welcome trend of injuries to the players that is attracting the headlines. Almost all the teams have faced the same fate as far as the injuries to the players are concerned with Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Daredevils being the worst hit teams. Here’s a quick look at the list of injured players in the season three of the IPL so far- Gautam Gambhir: The Delhi Daredevils received a major setback when its skipper Gautam Gambhir managed a reasonably serious hamstring injury while fielding during the match against the Mumbai Indians on March 17 which forced him to stay out of the IPL action. Wayne Parnell: The South African fast bowler Wayne Parnell, representing the Delhi Daredevils, got ruled out of the IPL after having sustained a groin injury during a warm-up session and had to return home without playing a single game. Graeme Smith: It came as a twin blow for the Rajasthan Royals when two of its key players Graeme Smith and Dimitri Mascarenhas got injured during their clash against Delhi Daredevils in Ahmedabad on March 15. The South African captain fractured his right middle finger while diving to take a brilliant catch of Virender Sehwag which brought to an end his IPL campaign. Dimitri Mascarenhas: The English all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas incurred an ankle injury while getting back into the crease in time during the Royals' innings in the Ahemdabad encounter. He is ruled out of the entire IPL action. Yusuf … [Read more...]

IPL: In the mirror of Past, Present and Future

Indian Premier League (IPL), a brainchild of BCCI or to be precise its vice-president Lalit Modi, is a Twenty20 league sanctioned by ICC.Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Dare Devils and Rajasthan Royals are the eight franchise teams taking part in the tournament.Vijay Mallya, Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan, Venkataram Reddy and Nita Ambani are the major IPL franchises. The first season of the Indian Premier League, also known as the DLF Indian Premier League, began on April 18, 2008, in Bangalore, and ended on June 1, 2008, with the victory of the Rajasthan Royals in the final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. The second edition of the cash-rich event was conducted in South Africa and was won by Deccan Chargers.Sponsorships: India's biggest property developer DLF Group paid US$50 million to be the title sponsor of the tournament for 5 years from 2008 to 2013. Other five-year sponsorship agreements include a deal with motorcycle maker Hero Honda worth $22.5-million, one with PepsiCo worth $12.5-million, and a deal with beer and airline conglomerate Kingfisher at $26.5-million. Television rights: On 15 January 2008 it was announced that a consortium consisting of India's Sony Entertainment Television network and Singapore-based World Sport Group secured the global broadcasting rights of the Indian Premier League. The record deal has duration of ten years at a cost of US $1.026 billion. IPL game Preview: Rajasthan Vs Chennai

T20 Match Preview: Rajasthan Royals Vs Chennai Super King Venue and Conditions: First game of the double header on Sunday is a repeat of the 2008 season's final showdown - the Rajasthan Royals versus the Chennai Super Kings. The game will be played at Rajasthan's second home at Motera in Ahmedabad, and both teams come in with contrasting fortunes in the week past. The Sadam Partel stadium surface in Ahmedabad does not look to be full of runs. Sides have struggled to post big scores first up this year with totals of 148, 168 and 141. Team Performance: Rajasthan have chalked up a hat-trick of victories while Chennai have suffered a hat-trick of defeats. After three demoralizing losses on the trot, the Royals have scripted a fairytale turnaround to win three straight games. After languishing at the bottom of the pile initially, they are now up to third in the points table in the blink of an eye, and this just goes on to prove just how quickly things can turn around in this format. Despite the loss of key men like Graeme Smith and Dimitri Mascarenhas, Rajasthan have been galvanised. Hampshire's Michael Lumb and Yusuf Pathan have been to the fore. The spunky young Faiz Fazal was drafted in and started contributing right away. Yusuf Pathan played his second massive innings of the season after his hundred in Mumbai, carting 8 sixes against Deccan to win the match on his own. In the preceding couple of games, Adam Voges provided great finishes with his hard-hitting prowess, and ensured Rajasthan accounted for the last 5 overs well. With the batsmen firing, the bowlers got back their confidence, led by a resurgent and disciplined Tait as he bowled two fabulous spells against Punjab and Deccan to … [Read more...]

IPL Match Preview: Hyderabad Vs Mumbai Indians

Venue and Conditions: Deccan take on Mumbai at home but it will feel like an away game. It is important to note that this match is being played at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai, not the Brabourne stadium. Only one game has been played there so far; Kolkata beating Deccan by 11 runs having posted 161. Team Performance: Deccans are well equipped to inflict a second defeat on Mumbai. Thanks to their disciplined bowling they are one of the few sides who can be confident of restricting a start-studded batting line-up. Just like Bangalore frustrated the Indians in their only defeat so far, Adam Gilchrist's men could do a similar job. They have managed it three times before in IPL. Chaminda Vaas is the key man for Deccan. With an economy rate of 6.66 - one of the best of the tournament - he and opening partner RP Singh must keep Sachin Tendulkar quiet. The Indians this year are a well-oiled unit who has been led from the front by Tendulkar, himself in stupendous form. In the previous two games Tendulkar has carried his bat through and that is indication enough of what the Chargers' bowlers should expect. Mumbai's Sanath Jayasuriya missed out in the victory over Chennai as Ryan McLaren's medium pacers were preferred. He only went for five an over so should keep his place. Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo continue in the middle order meaning JP Duminy will have to warm the bench. Mumbai's bowlers have been on target right through with Zaheer Khan, Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh all among the wickets. The Chargers' running between the wickets has also been dicey and the calling for runs must improve. The Chargers who had won three of their five games produced an ugly performance against … [Read more...]

Team Analysis: Bangalore Royal Challengers

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Team Analysis: Royal Challengers Bangalore also referred to as RCB is a franchise, cricket team based in the city of Bangalore. Indian Premier League The team is owned by the business magnate Vijay Mallya, through his flagship firm UB Group. Brijesh Patel is the CEO of the RCB and Anil Kumble is the captain. Rahul Dravid is the team's Icon Player, while Ray Jennings, the former South African coach, is the coach.  Players’ Profile: 1. Anil Kumble:No bowler in history won India more Test matches than Anil Kumble, and there probably hasn't been a harder trier either. Like the great tall wristspinners Bill O'Reilly and his own idol BS Chandrasekhar, Kumble traded the legspinner's proverbial yo-yo for a spear, as the ball hacked through the air rather than hanging in it and came off the pitch with a kick rather than a kink.2. Mark Boucher: A man to go to war with, but never against, Mark Boucher packs all the archetypical attributes of the South African cricketer into his short, stocky frame. He is relentlessly competitive, invariably aggressive, and as hard and uncompromising as the new ball. He makes a point of, in his own words, "walking onto the field as if you own the place". 3. Rahul Dravid: Rahul Dravid, a cricketer who seamlessly blends an old-world classicism with a new-age professionalism, is the best No. 3 batsman to play for India - and might even be considered one of the best ever by the time his career is done. He already averages around 60 at that position, more than any regular No. 3 batsman in the game's history, barring Don Bradman. 4. Dillon du Preez: Dillon du Preez had one of the more interesting entries into the first-class game when he … [Read more...]
