IPL Game: Delhi Vs Hyderabad

Sunday's second IPL game is a straightforward affair in which the winners are guaranteed a place in the semi-finals. Pre tournament favourites Delhi will take on reigning champions Deccan. This is a fascinating contest between two teams who have got their acts together in time to be in with a chance of the semi-finals. Venue and Conditions: Pitches have deteriorated as the tournament has gone on and the Feroz Shah Kotla seems to have suffered the most. Delhi was skittled out for 111 here last time on a slow track that offered variable bounce and prodigious turn. Team News: Delhi Daredevils: Delhi's worry is indifferent form of their top order batsmen particularly explosive opener Virender Sehwag. He has not done much damage so far and the attacking batsman would love to break the shackles. If he gets going, nothing could be better than that for Delhi. Skipper Gautam Gambhir has played a vital role in keeping the team in contention and the youngster would surely be aiming to see his side through tomorrow. Going by present form, Delhi's chances rest on a good show by their bowlers, especially their opening fast bowlers Dirk Nannes and Ashish Nehra and spinner Amit Mishra. Delhi will surely recall Daniel Vettori on this pitch but they will have a tough call over which of their overseas players to drop and it could be that Tillakaratne Dilshan returns to the bench after the briefest of recalls. Deccan Chargers: Deccan have been a settled unit in recent games and their only real decision is whether to bring back Herschelle Gibbs in favour of Mitchell Marsh. Delhi have their task cut out as Deccan's young players like Rohit Sharma and T Suman, guarding the middle-order, have the … [Read more...]

IPL Preview: Rajasthan Vs Hyderabad

Venue and Conditions: Friday’s IPL action comes from Ahmedabad where the Rajasthan Royals take on the Deccan Chargers. This is only the third IPL fixture to be played at this stadium and the wicket has proved to be a difficult one on which to get the ball away. It's a slow track, arguably the slowest in the IPL and the Deccan batsmen may find the adjustment difficult. Team News: The Royals lost their first three matches and were dealt a double injury blow when the South African skipper Graeme Smith and Hampshire's Dimitri Mascarenhas were ruled out for the duration after their second contest. Later, they have just completed back to back wins over the Knight Riders and the Kings XI to kick start their tournament. The squad has been trimmed to 19 players which has seen Damien Martyn head home but there is talk of Shane Watson arriving in the not to distant future which would provide another boost to their chances. The Deccan Chargers have reeled off successive wins against Super Kings, Kings XI and the Daredevils after an opening day loss to the Knight Riders. The evergreen Adam Gilchrist is doing a sterling job and he is being ably assisted by the experienced duo of Andrew Symonds and Herschelle Gibbs both of whom seem to be playing their way back into form. Gilchrist, Symonds, Gibbs and Rohit Sharma have all been amongst the runs at times so far but only Gilchrist with a top score of 54 and Symonds with 53 have made a half century. With the ball, Chaminda Vaas has eight wickets and an economy rate a shade over 6 per over whilst Symonds and Sharma have kept things pretty tight with economy rates of just over 6.5. Symonds produced a man of the match performance in the recent game against Delhi scoring a quick fire 35 … [Read more...]

IPL Cricket stars we miss in May

Indian Premier League teams will miss some match winning foreign cricketers in May. Absence of these stars will have maximum impact on teams like Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad while Teams like Rajasthan, Bangalore and Delhi will be less impacted by their absence. Dale Steyn is the bowler to watch out in May. 1. Chennai Super Kings: New Zealand all rounder Jacob Oram and Australian batsman Mathew Hayden and Michael Hussey will not play for Chennai IPL in the next month. Chennai will reach semi-finals but title hopes are almost out of question due to their absence. These three cricketers clean swept all the three man of the match awards in the Chennai matches. Chennai is the most affected team in the Indian Premier League. South African pacer Morkel may fill the void left by Jacob Oram and Stephen Fleming may partially fill the gap left by Michael Hussey. But who will replace Match winner Mathew Hayden? 2. Punjab Kings Eleven: Mohali IPL will miss its strike bowler Brett Lee, Kylie Mills and Simon Katich. It is almost impossible to fill the boots of Australian Speedster. 3. Hyderabad Deccan Chargers: They will miss their star batsman Andrew Symonds. So their hope of reaching semi-finals is almost out of question. 4. Bangalore Royal Challengers: They will miss New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor, Australian speedster Ashley Noffke and West Indies batsman Chanderpaul. But Bangalore fortunes will be boosted by arrivals of South African sensation Dale Steyn. Zaheer Khan, Praveen kumar, Anil Kumble, Dale Steyn and Jacques Kallis may destroy any batting lineup in Indian Premier League. 5. Delhi daredevils: Delhi will not be affected much due to the absence of New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori. South African batsman De … [Read more...]

Lessons from IPL T20 teams

Indian Premier League already witnessed some exciting contests and wonderful performances from world cricket stars. But teams like Hyderabad surprisingly lost both matches due to lack of proper planning. Everyone can learn cricket/real life lessons from these IPL T20 matches. Lessons from Indian Premier League cricket matches: 1. Hyderabad Deccan Chargers: This is a classic case of fall from grace. A. You need a motivational leader to win a contest. A weak leader like Laxman is a minus point. B. You need proper planning and unbiased selection to win in any sport. C. You need a team which is strong in all departments. Hyderabad bought 4 hard hitters and forgot about other departments. D. You need bench strength in case of emergency. What will they do when Symonds will not available in the last weeks of May? 2. Kolkata Knight Riders:A. It has exciting passionate owner like Shahrukh Khan (He is like Mark Cuban of NBA). B. It has inspirational leader like Sourav Ganguly who will not settle for second place. 3. Jaipur IPL: Shane Warne is doing magic both on and off the field with his bowling, inspiring captaincy and tactical coaching. A genius leader like Warne can spot ability in young cricketers and raise their game level. 4. Delhi Daredevils: They believed in true world class players but not bits and pieces. Bowlers like Glenn McGrath and Mohammad Asif are giving superb starts with their accurate bowling. Class is permanent. 5. Bangalore Royal Challengers: They too believed in world class bowlers like Dale Steyn, Anil Kumble, Nathan Bracken and Zaheer Khan. True all-rounder like Praveen kumar is an additional bonus. But they picked world class test batsmen for Twenty20 cricket games. 6. … [Read more...]
